You have now returned from your field trip of the proposed prescribed burn site where you have obtained data and information related to weather and site conditions. As instructed, you have recorded this information on your Wildfire Information Worksheet.
You should now be extremely familiar with the proposed burn site particularly the sector your team is responsible for. You have walked the site, noted the terrain, the vegetation type, arrangement and density, existing control lines and many other site characteristics.
Referencing the information you have just obtained and recorded on your Wildfire Information Worksheet you are now required to develop a burn plan with your team members. In this plan you will outline the tactics you would implement to achieve a successful burn outcome along your sector. (You will need to refer to other sectors in so far as determining lighting sequences and the overall burn objective). Your tactics must strongly relate to the weather and site information you have obtained and the potential influence this may have on fire behaviour.
Points to consider in the development of your plan are:
resources required (both human and equipment)
variability of weather conditions
lighting patterns
influence of site characteristics on fire behaviour
team lighting sequences
escape routes
assets at risk
monitoring and patrolling the burn.
You will use a program called VoiceThread to develop your burn plan in collaboration with your team members. VoiceThread is fun and easy to use however you first need to be comfortable with the VoiceThread concept and some basic commenting tools before you can successfully undertake this exercise.
Click on the following link for an introduction to VoiceThread .
I advise that you establish your own VoiceThread account so that you can create a simple VoiceThread and then practise with the commenting tools (drawing, voiceover, text tool) that you will use in this exercise.
When you feel confident in using the basic tools click on the link below corresponding to your team to begin the exercise. It is not necessary that all team members are online at the same time, however this is encouraged as it will benefit the development of your plan by providing a much more dynamic/collaborative experience. You will make contributions and record your input to your team VoiceThread over the course of the next week at anytime that suits you. Click on your team link below to begin.
